Atrium Health Levine Children’s provides clinical care across the region, including in Charlotte, Winston Salem, and outlying rural regions surrounding these cities.
In Charlotte, Levine Children’s Hospital is the largest children’s hospital in North Carolina and has repeatedly been ranked by U.S. News & World Report as a Best Children’s Hospital, receiving this nationally recognized designation of excellence in 10 Pediatric clinical areas. There are 167 pediatric specialists, and 145 general pediatricians in the pediatric department in the Charlotte region.
In Winston-Salem, the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Brenner Children’s Hospital is a 144 bed Children’s Hospital and provides care for over 4,500 inpatient admissions annually and more than 300,000 primary and specialty care outpatient visits combined. The Department of Pediatrics in Winston-Salem is home to over 150 Pediatric primary care and specialty physicians serving this region.
Wake Forest University School of Medicine directs the education of nearly 1,900 students and fellows, including physicians, basic scientists and allied clinical professionals. The school of medicine supports basic and clinical research, resulting in nationally and internationally recognized excellence in biomedical research.
The DISCOVERY Study is managed by the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, with recruitment supported through clinical research teams located in Winston-Salem and in Charlotte. At the Winston-Salem location, study participants are invited to come to the Clinical Research Unit, located at the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center Campus. In Charlotte, study participants are invited to come to one of the 2 STRIVE Research Clinics. The CRU and STRIVE Research Clinic locations all allow children and families to readily participate in research by providing clinical sites with family rooms, play areas, and exam rooms for participants of all ages for brief or extensive visits. These sites also have full time phlebotomists with advanced laboratory capabilities, investigational pharmacy support, research program coordinators and managers, research nurses and coordinators, all designed to support a comprehensive range of research needs.
